Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential hopeful, and former President Clinton campaigned Thursday in North Carolina as early voting kicks off in the Tar Heel State.

Clinton also joined the Harris campaign on the trail earlier this week, with a primary focus on rural voters in the southern parts of battleground states. Over the weekend, he rallied voters in battleground Georgia, making an appeal to Black voters in particular.

The event came as North Carolina, a crucial swing state ahead of November, opened the polls for early voting as it continues recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene. Walz, Vice President Harris's running mate, will also give remarks in Winston-Salem later this evening.

The Hill/Decision Desk HQ shows former President Trump leading Harris by 1 point in the state — 48.9 percent support to 47.9 percent.

The event in Durham, N.C., was set to begin at 3 p.m. EDT.
